A Short History
ASP Clips began inside of a small garage in Liberty Hill, Texas in 1990. At the heart of this venture was Doug Lindquist, a former IBM professional who took a buyout to retire early and start Automotive Specialty Products, later turning into ASP International with the popular trade name of ASP Clips.
Doug Lindquist, famously known among peers as “Bubba”, leveraged his years of corporate experience and his love of cars to create a business that truly understood the needs of the automotive industry with a simple yet powerful vision: to provide high-quality clips and fasteners with exceptional service.
During his years of working at IBM, Doug had many automotive business ventures, from car sales to automotive and collision repair shops. Armed with a catalog and a Lotus spreadsheet, Doug set out to redefine the fastener distribution business. He started with a retired tool truck and converted it into a mobile warehouse. He used this truck and his big ideas to personally service the Austin Metro area.
Over the next 25 years, ASP Clips became a trusted name in the automotive industry. His sons joined during the mid-90s and helped grow the business, adding mobile warehouses in every region of Texas.
In early 2017, Doug Lindquist was diagnosed with cancer. After a hard-fought battle, he sadly passed away on July 27th, 2017. However, his legacy continues through his family and dedicated distributors, who remain committed to delivering the same exceptional service and expertise that Doug built the company on.
Today, ASP Clips has grown to be one of the largest independently owned faster companies in the United States, supplying customers nationwide with high-quality clips and fasteners. We are proud to continue Doug’s vision, ensuring that the automotive industry has access to the best products with the best possible pricing where service is always the goal of the sale!
"More Than Half Nuts"
“More Than Half Nuts” – a slogan as unique as our company. But where did it come from?
During Doug Lindquist’s final years at IBM, as he eagerly planned the launch of ASP, he and his colleagues brainstormed potential slogans for the new business. Every morning, the whiteboard in his office was filled with ideas from coworkers who supported his vision.
One day, someone jokingly remarked that he was “half nuts” to start a fastener company, leaving behind the stability of a corporate job for the unpredictable world of small business ownership. The phrase stuck, and soon after, “More Than Half Nuts” became the official slogan of ASP Clips.
While the phrase was born from humor, it also speaks to our passion, dedication, and the entrepreneurial spirit that drives us. It reflects our willingness to go the extra mile, take risks, and challenge the status quo in an industry that often prioritizes sales over service.
